We will assume that gender feature is different from feature class, being mainly syntactic, whether considering syntactic or inherent gender. Morphological constituents that identify the formal classes are often mistaken for gender marks but, in fact, concerning the gender value of their own elements, classes are abstract and heterogeneous. In this article, the relation between class markers and noun gender values will be discussed, within Distributed Morphology framework, aiming to understand the influence of the former ones over Basic education students' implicit and explicit knowledge and rules about gender.engDistributed morphologyGrammatical gender systemFormal classesImplicit and explicit knowledgeDidactics of gender in basic educationMorfologia distribuídaSistema de género gramaticalClasses formaisConhecimentos explícitos e implícitosDidática do género no Ensino BásicoConhecimentos e regras explícitos e implícitos sobre género linguístico nos alunos dos 1.º e 2.º Ciclos do Ensino Básico: a influência da classe formal do nomejournal article
