With its capacity to enhance our real-world environment by overlaying virtual elements onto it, Augmented Reality has emerged as an extremely versatile technology. This technology is particularly pertinent for Cultural Heritage sites, as it allows for exploration of the location while maintaining its preservation. On the other hand, web-based technologies have recently reappeared, with significant advances being made in this type of implementation. The advancements have empowered web-based applications to become more robust and capable of delivering immersive experiences while still benefiting from the advantages of being a web implementation, such as accessibility and crossplatform compatibility. These characteristics are also relevant for Cultural Heritage sites since they allow easier access to the content, without needing to install a one-time-use application and with a broader range of device compatibility. This project explores existing technologies for creating Web Augmented Reality (Web AR), which is implementing Augmented Reality through the web, to understand the extent to which this can be achieved and comprehend both the advantages and limitations inherent in this approach. To attain this, multiple Web AR technologies were tested and researched, and a final web application was developed, centered around the archaeological site of Monte dos Castelinhos, a Roman city originating from the 1st century BC. Additionally, complementary components of Virtual Reality and 3D Model View were also added as further testing of these technologies. By creating these experiences, this project provides a listing of the current technologies for implementing Web Augmented Reality as well as documents the development of a web application with Augmented and Virtual Reality experiences, showcasing its challenges and decision-making. Finally, it delivers an engaging and accessible application for Monte dos Castelinhos that fully preserves the cultural significance of the location.engRealidade AumentadaRealidade Aumentada na WebRealidade Aumentada MóvelHerança CulturalNavegadores Web MóveisTrabalhos de projeto de mestrado - 2024Web Augmented Reality applied to Cultural Heritagemaster thesis203682980
