Veiga, InêsMarçal, AlexandraRicardo, Rafael Martins2024-05-152024-05-152024-02-23http://hdl.handle.net/10451/64754Being design a valuable tool that facilitates the process of education and environmental awareness, this work originated from the idea of contributing to the sustainability of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve (EWSR), an area located on the coast of Mafra that presents important environmental factors to preserve. Thus, the objective was established to develop a design project to promote and raise awareness about the conservation of the EWSR. This project focused on the school population due to the impact that environmentally aware children can have in both the short and long term, and because of the hypothesis that children might not have knowledge of the EWSR. To achieve this objective, the developed methodology was divided into two parts: the first involved a characterization of the Biodiversity, Habitats, and Ecosystem Services of the area through literature review and interviews. The second part involved the actual project, carried out through active research with an ethnographic approach. After reaching an agreement with the Escola Básica e Secundária António Bento Franco to work with one of their 5th-grade classes, surveys were conducted to obtain a general profile of the students. The results of this survey, which confirmed the previously mentioned hypothesis, along with the information obtained from the characterization of the study area, served as the basis for creating activities to be carried out with the class. A session was then held with the students where the planned activities were put into practice. At the end of the session, a survey was distributed to receive feedback from them. The second survey demonstrated that the session contributed to increasing the children's knowledge and awareness of the EWSR.
