Lisboa: ISA, 2013, 116 p.http://hdl.handle.net/10400.5/6465Mestrado em Engenharia do Ambiente - Instituto Superior de AgronomiaThe objective of this study was to test a solid phase extraction technique (SPE) for the decontamination of water contaminated with phenolic compounds. For this purpose, C18 discs were used as adsorbents and UV-Vis spectrometry, at 25 ºC, as the analytical technique to monitor the removal of pollutants from water. The kinetics of adsorption was studied for 10 phenol derivatives by monitoring the change in absorbance of each solution with time. This allowed the determination of the equilibrium constant (Keq) and the adsorption (kup) and desorption (koff) rate constants for each system. The 10 compounds analyzed were: 2-ethylphenol, 4-ethylphenol, 2-iodophenol, 4-iodophenol, 2-chlorophenol, 3- chlorophenol, 4-chlorophenol, 2-bromophenol, 3-bromophenol and 4-bromophenol. In the sequence of previous studies carried out at the Structure and Reactivity Group of CQB, University of Lisbon, this work intends to give a contribution for the optimization of the extraction process of phenols from waters by means of SPE using C18 discs, thus increasing the range of compounds analyzed and allowing the assessment of this technique’s effectiveness towards a broader set of pollutants. This SPE methodology is proposed as a simple, relatively efficient and cost-effective alternative for the purification and treatment of water, with low economic and environmental costs.porphenol derivativessolid phase extractionC18 discswater pollutantsDescontaminação de águas poluídas com compostos fenólicos utilizando discos de C18master thesis201922070
