Literature is perhaps the most precious asset of Portuguese culture. No wonder therefore that the authors of such a vast literary spoil have been, over time, often honored in public sculpture in Lisbon. Through the study of the monuments that evoke them in the city of Lisbon we may establish an overview of its iconography that, despite variations due to different approaches of each sculptor, follows a common denominator.
