In this sense, we originally pretend to find the genesis of the word and know its course in Portuguese artistic environment. Viana played a decisive roll in national modernism, in spite of living abroad for 25 years. When he finally returned home, persecuted by the Second World War, he exclusively dedicated himself to still-life painting, having been rewarded with several prizes. The analysis of the Portuguese and European environment and the artist’s life were essential for the study of its deeds.
