O testemunho atual do ensino da História e da História e Cultura das Artes pretende incutir no aluno aquilo que se pretende do ofício do historiador, ou seja, a arte da interpretação crítica e rigorosa das fontes históricas materiais e imateriais. A sua origem está na tendência metodológica do estudo da História, em que se cientifiza o passado humano enquanto objeto problemático, quer pela contrariedade de visões historiográficas, quer pelos factos verdadeiros/falsos que as fontes nos revelam. Daí que a metodologia académica se enraize na didática da História e da Cultura das Artes do Ensino Básico e Secundário. A observação das fontes tem um fim: o olhar analítico e descritivo. Como ciência social e humana, parece-nos que a prática letiva da História está incompleta:“(...) uma ciência nos parecerá sempre ter algo de incompleto se não nos ajudar, cedo ou tarde, a viver melhor”1. Aqui, “viver melhor” poderá ser uma questão de saborear a própria História e a Arte. Independentemende da análise, o aluno ganhar uma experiência pessoal, por meio da contemplação da realidade total (o passado e o presente unidos no instante). Procura-se assim trilhar um caminho em que o trabalho letivo com os alunos seja um objeto vivo e de espanto. Que se cruze a transmissão dos conhecimentos, concedidos pelas fontes orais, escritas, materiais, com a própria atitude da contemplação (observar e admirar) a História e a Cultura das Artes. A História da Humanidade é, também, feita de cada olhar humano que observa a realidade, gratuitamente.This paper aims to reflect on the contemplative gaze in History and in the History and Culture of the Arts, as a purpose of education and teaching practice. The current purpose of teaching of History and History and Culture of the Arts aims to instil in students what is required of the historian's craft: to adopt the art of critical and rigorous interpretation of the material and the immaterial historical sources. Its origins lie in the methodological trend in the study of history, in which the human past is seen as a problematic object, because of the conflicting historiographical views and the suspect credibility facts revealed by the sources. This is why the academic methodology is rooted within the teaching of History and Arts Culture in primary and secondary schools. The observation of the sources has a purpose: the analytical and descriptive look. As a social and human science, it seems to us that the teaching practice of History is incomplete:"(...) a science will always seem incomplete to us if it doesn't help us, sooner or later, to live better2". Here, "living better" could be a question of savouring History and Art as themselves. Student can gain a personal experience through the contemplation of whole reality: the past and the present unified in the instant of now. The aim is to tread a path in which teaching students is a living object of wonder. That while providing knowledge with oral and written sources, one must also seek to make a connection with contemplation itself - to observe and to admire History and Culture of the Arts.
