Ademais, as reacções parentais às emoções negativas das crianças (RPEN) e as atribuições parentais (AP) são dimensões relevantes da parentalidade (e.g., Fabes et al., 2002; Snarr et al., 2009). Objectivos: Assim, o principal objetivo deste estudo centra-se na compreensão e avaliação da relação entre as RPEN e as AP disfuncionais que explicam o comportamento inadequado das crianças. Especificamente, o interesse deste trabalho é perceber se as RPEN podem ser preditoras das AP. De forma complementar, interessa também avaliar o papel de variáveis sociodemográficas que aparentemente têm um impacto substancial na relação anterior, nomeadamente o sexo da criança e o sexo do progenitor. Métodos: Foram aplicadas as versões portuguesas da Parental Cognition Scale (Fernandes et al., 2019) e do Coping With Children's Negative Emotion (Alves e Cruz, 2011). Análises de regressão múltipla revelaram que o uso de respostas de regulação emocional negativa pelos pais foi responsável por proporções significativas de variância nos índices da escala de cognição parental. Conclusões: As análises de regressão múltipla revelaram que o uso de respostas de regulação emocional negativa por parte das mães foi responsável por proporções significativas de variância nos índices da escala de cognição parental e os testes t para amostras independentes mostram alguns resultados interessantes sobre as diferenças entre mães vs. pais e filho vs. filha.The bioecological line of thought considers that the characteristics of the person function both as an indirect producer and as a product of development (Bjorklun & Myers, 2019), besides the process of parenthood is complex and demaning, and it’s irrevocably alters the activities of adults (Bornstein, 2016; Bronfenbrenner & Evans, 2000; Holden, 2021; Westrupp et al., 2022). In addition the parental reactions to childrens negative emotions and the parental attributions are relevant for parenting (e.g., Fabes et al., 2002; Snarr et al., 2009). Objectives: Thus, the main objective of this study focuses on understanding and evaluating the relationship between parental reaction of children negative emotions (RPEN) and parental dysfunctional attributions (AP) that explain children's inappropriate behavior. Specifically, the interest of this work is to understand whether RPEN can be predictors of AP. In a complementary way, this study is also interested in evaluating the role of sociodemographic variables which apparently have a substantial impact on the previous relationship, namely the sex of the child and the sex of the parent. Methods: The Portuguese versions of Parent Cognition Scale (Fernandes et al., 2019) and the Coping With Children’s Negative Emotion (Alves e Cruz, 2011) was applied. Multiple regression analyses revealed that the parents’ use of negative emotional regulation responses accounted for significant proportions of variance in the parental cognition scale indexes.
