Doada em 1169 por D. Afonso Henriques aos Templários, a Quinta da Cardiga conjuntamente com os castelos de Almourol, de Ceras e do Zêzere, constituía a cintura de defesa do Tejo. Com a extinção da Ordem do Templo, a propriedade passou para o domínio da Ordem de Cristo. O projecto do conjunto da quinta, que incluí o palacete, o celeiro, a capela e o claustro, é atribuído à traça do arquitecto João de Castilho, actualmente considerado património nacional pelo SIPA. Este conjunto sofreu diversas alterações sendo a mais recente no século XX, aquando da vivência dos actuais herdeiros. De momento os edificados encontram-se sem qualquer uso e desprovidos de manutenção. Propõe-se uma leitura atenta do lugar, com foco nas vivências e experiências no passado e presente, que revelem a alma do lugar no intuito de procurar uma resposta arquitectónica que respeite a pré-existência e dê continuidade à sua essência, valorizando o território e a sua ligação histórica templária. Fruto da leitura do lugar, o programa implementado é uma unidade de turismo terapêutico, destinado a utilizadores com problemas psicológicos como ansiedade, depressão e burnout, ao qual a arte do lugar, ao abraçar os silêncios e os sons da natureza trará um novo sentido à vida, um novo renascer.The present work comes from a reflection on the heritage that has been neglected in the rural environment and which in a way should intervene while respecting memory and identity. Donated in 1169 by D. Afonso Henriques to the Templars, Quinta da Cardiga, together with the castles of Almourol, Ceras and Zêzere, constituted the Tagus' defense belt. With the extinction of the Order of the Temple, the property passed to the domain of the Order of Christ. The project for the whole of the farm, which includes the palace, the barn, the chapel, and the cloister, is attributed to the design of the architect João de Castilho, currently considered a national heritage by the SIPA. This set underwent several changes, the most recent being in the 20th century, during the life of the current heirs. Now the buildings are without any use and maintenance free. A careful reading of the place is proposed, focusing on experiences and experiences in the past and present, which reveal the soul of the place to seek an architectural response that respects the pre-existence and continues its essence, valuing the territory and its historical Templar connection.
