London: Taylor & Francis.978-0-203-08565-3http://hdl.handle.net/10451/40073Around 50 Km from Lisbon, over a hundred military earthworks located up the hills between the river Tagus and the Atlantic Ocean survived after 200 years. They are at the origin of a project of rehabili-tation, interpretation and fruition that has been named Linhas de Torres Historic Route. A decade of research and intervention works on around 30 military structures led to more information about building materials and techniques used, whilst also enabling the testing of rehabilitation techniques /structure stabilisation, and moni-toring the effects of men and the elements on earthworks built in between invasions so as to halt the advance of Napoleon’s army.engLinhas de Torres Historic Route Rescuing and enhancing earthworksbook part
