O projecto foca-se nos nos desafios que esta paródia sobre a herança gaélica irlandesa coloca ao tradutor; fornecer-se-á uma amostra representativa dos exemplos encontrados, seguida de uma sugestão e breve reflexão das estratégias tradutórias empregadas. De modo a discutir estes problemas opta-se por seguir as estratégias de Andrew Chesterman e o seu livro Memes of translation : the spread of ideas in translation theory (2000) utilizado como referência principal. A par das questões tradutórias, este projecto trata também da importância da cultura na tradução e defende a utilização de duas abordagens distintas mas com efeitos complementares: adaptação (visando a aceitabilidade do leitor) e o uso de empréstimos (tendo em conta que a obra reflecte sobre um contexto histórico-social especificamente irlandês).Abstract: The goal of this project is to analyse and discuss the translation of several chapters of the book The Poor Mouth, by Flann O‟Brien (1941). The project focuses on the challenges faced by the translator of this Irish parody; it aims to provide a representative sample of the problems encountered, followed by a suggestion and a brief reflection on the translation strategies used. In order to discuss these issues, Andrew Chesterman‟s strategies were followed and his work Memes of translation: the spread of ideas in translation theory (2000), was used as main reference. Alongside the translation issues, the project will also focus on the importance of culture in translation and it proposes the usage of two distinct but mutually complementary approaches: adaptation (as a means to achieve the reader‟s receptiveness) and the use of loans (as a means to address the Irish themes that are central to O‟Brien‟s work).porO’Brien, Flann, 1911-1966.
