In order to provide that theoretical basis, the work of Immanuel Kant, was explored. Kant was a philosopher in the seventeenth century with an extensive work on human nature and their development and interaction mechanisms, which often work together. The work of Immanuel Kant could then prove to be an asset to landscape architecture giving a philosophical stand to concepts like: - The importance of public space and the necessity of respecting the natural element of the territory in which a city stands; - The importance of a polycentric city; - The need for a viable public transportation network in all cities. After analyzing the work of Kant which was judged relevant to this dissertation and extrapolating the content applied to the concepts mentioned above, the concepts will be applied to a study case for a better understanding of their mechanics and functioning. The subject for the study case will be the Lisbon Metropolitan Areaporhuman natureteleological viewunsocial sociabilityurban planningpublic spacepoli-centrismfundamental ecological networkKant e o planeamento urbano, uma nova perspectiva.
