Resumo: | With the portrait as the first premise, this theoretical-practical doctoral thesis aims to analyze the pictorial development of the portrait and the study and reflection arising from this practice. In a bilateral research, which merged between painting in theory and aesthetics in philosophy, we seek a “portrait of the portrait”, that is, its essence through its existence. This study of portraits of ours begins with the practice of painting, followed by the study of ontology, phenomenology, the mystery of life and the unquestionable weight of sensations that this theme suggests. From its origins to the present day, we have sought portraits through art history and aesthetic philosophy. We found that the essence of portrait and art lives on the expressiveness that is relative to a sensitive and cognitive world, characteristics only of human existence. Through this idea of sensitive portrait, we speak of the term anti-portrait that, for us, imposes itself in the portrait by the duality of a present absence and reveals itself in portrait painting as a personal mischaracterization of a latent abstract humanism. In the search for the portrait and its meaning, in the history of art and in aesthetic philosophy, we find a set of starting points for the study of the portrait, this historical and philosophical connection that we maintained, allowed us to have a parallel existential thought between the portrait and the humanity. With Vultos, paintings that are an integral part of this project, we want to show the possibility of showing, in pictorial representation, what we know is there, but that we cannot identify at all, a mystery, a suggestion, an anti-portrait. Finally, we remind you that this meeting, with several portraits throughout human existence, reflects in itself, the eternal search of man for the eternal mystery of life and that just as the question of this thesis will remain open until the end of human times, the same way we see portraits |
