Resumo: | In a dialogue between composer, interpreter and audience, musical notation serves as a bridge for a faithful communication of the musical work it presents. Throughout the 20th century, with the constant search for innovation and deconstruction of canons and preconceived rules, traditional notation proved insufficient for the transmission of characteristics and nuances of musical works, as well as not corresponding to the demands of new instruments and technologies. Thus, notation began to adapt to its’ different contexts, and composers have taken on the creation of their own systems that suit themselves and their artistic expressions. Compositional needs changed, musical expressiveness gained a new meaning and found a new space of action, accepting writing and the pictorial potential of notation as an essential element for the development of the performative result. So, a new visual vocabulary gains strength in the field of music and the interaction between arts becomes ever stronger and more inevitable and painting, poetry and music unite in extremely rich visual and expressive dialogues. Thus, musical writing ceases to be a set of descriptive symbols with meanings of generalized understanding, to start exploring fields of subjectivity, representation and graphic abstraction, testing the limits of perception and challenging the interpreter to a collaboration and exchange of experiences and sound and creative contingencies, through individual languages with their own aesthetics and visual supports. With differentiated graphic characteristics and their own visual syntax, the musical scores of the 20th century propose a wide range of codes and visual metaphors representative of a synesthetic perception of music and sounds that will be brought to light in a phased analysis between intention, semantics and graphics |
