O humanista pioneiro Fernão de Oliveira revisitado n’ O romance do gramático de Ernesto Rodrigues

Abstract

Este artigo pretende relevar criticamente o valor literário d’O romance do gramático, de Ernesto Rodrigues e, a partir dele, revisitar a figura e a obra original do humanista português Fernão de Oliveira. A vida invulgar deste humanista do séc. XVI, apelidado de “genial e insubmisso”, é fonte inspiradora deste extraordinário romance que permite oferecer ao leitor dos nossos dias uma reconstituição ficcional eivada de intersecções multirreferenciais da cultura própria da época moderna. Romance erudito, será apreciado como exercício de cultura e de criação literária, capaz de dar a conhecer, pela via do imaginário, um dos maiores humanistas portugueses que, na ausência de documentação suficiente, só pode ser revisitado de forma abrangente e unificadora pela via da ficção.

This article intends to critically emphasize the literary value of O romance do gramático, written by Ernesto Rodrigues, and from it to revisit the figure and original work of the Portuguese humanist Fernão de Oliveira. The unusual life of this sixteenth century humanist, considered to be “genial and insubmissive”, inspires an extraordinary novel, offering to the current reader a fictional recovery, contaminated by multi-referential intersections of the modern period culture. This erudite novel will be taken as an exercise of culture and literary creation, capable of introducing, through the imaginary method, one of the greatest Portuguese humanists. Given the absence of sufficient documentation, he can only be revisited in a comprehensive and unifying way with the help of fiction.
