Resumo: The present doctoral study, titled “The Artistic Legacy of Master João da Silva (1880–1960): Contributions from the Study and Inventory to the Museological Programming of the João da Silva House-Museum”, aims to reclaim recognition for the sculptor João da Silva, who has been relatively overlooked by Portuguese art historiography. Funded by the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes (SNBA) over three years (2018-2021), the study involved the creation of a museological inventory of the João da Silva House-Museum (CMJS) collection, in accordance with national standards and legislation. This technical process encompassed 2,933 artistic objects, enabling the documentation of previously unknown works and providing a comprehensive perspective on João da Silva's artistic production. Based on an analysis of the history of the construction of the residence, studio and exhibition gallery, as well as the museological inventory, a proposal for museological programming was developed for the CMJS. This proposal seeks to return the house and its collection to public access and to the national artistic and cultural scene, aligning with the sculptor’s testamentary wishes and establishing a cultural space equipped with museological functions. Although the current designation of CMJS does not directly reflect the testamentary wishes of João da Silva and his wife, who envisioned it as a museum, it is understood that this designation incorporates aspects that reflect the uniqueness of its architectural heritage, preserving the living and working environment of the sculptor while maintaining and exhibiting his artistic legacy. Furthermore, a proposed management model for the CMJS was presented, advocating for its autonomous administration to address the need for a clear separation of powers and assets between the SNBA and the CMJS, given their distinct missions and objectives. Nevertheless, cooperation between the two institutions is recommended. The study also extended to a proposal for a biennial cultural programme for the CMJS, aiming not only to open the CMJS to the public but also to invigorate the cultural activities to be carried out within the space
