Abstract

The present dissertation explores the work of artist Leonora Carrington through the study of intuition and aesthetic experience, demonstrating how her artistic creation transcends the limits of rational analytical interpretation. The research is based on the theories of Henri Bergson, Carl G. Jung and Susan Sontag, to understand the creative process as well as the artist's aesthetic experience, focusing on the relationship between image, language and psychospatial dimension. In order to expand the understanding of the artist's work, the study seeks to understand the role of intuition, not only as a method of artistic creation but also as an essential tool for the spectator who interacts with her works. The dissertation concludes that Leonora Carrington's work challenges the exercise of conventional interpretation and demands from the spectator a sensitive and open approach to the unconscious and subjectivity.
