This dissertation edits and studies the chief astrological text of Abraham Zacut, the Tratado Breue en las Ynfluencias del Cielo (A Brief Treatise on the Influences of the Heavens) and its supplement De los Eclipses del Sol y la Luna (On the Eclipses of the Sun and the Moon). It presents a new transcription of the text as well as a study of the methodologies and astrological techniques used by the author. The first part of this dissertation presents a short biography of Zacut and its historical context, while the second addresses the astrological text. In it are studied in detail the foundations of the astrological doctrine, the rules for medical astrology, astro-meteorology, nativities and their techniques of prognostication, as well as the supplement on eclipses and their signification. This analysis of Zacut’s astrological methods are studied according to the form by which they are presented and by comparing them with his sources. Differences and similarities are highlight as well as some examples of Zacut’s own practice. A complete and independent edition of the text is included offering a more rigorous transcription than the three previous versions, which had several gaps and errors. Overall, this dissertation highlights an essential facet of Abraham Zacut’s identity, who considered himself more an astrologer than an astronomer and mathematician as he is often portrayed in historiography.
