"Ser pai..."o que trago, o que levo e quanto sou capaz : envolvimento paterno, memórias, estilo, e satisfação parental

Abstract

A partir de meados da década de 70, aumentou o número de mulheres que passou a dividir a responsabilidade pelo sustento familiar, surgindo a necessidade de se modificar a maneira como o homem participa da vida familiar, nomeadamente no que se refere aos cuidados dos filhos. Novos valores da paternidade passam a ganhar mais destaque como: o estar presente, acompanhar as atividades e o desenvolvimento do filho, demonstrar carinho e afeto, envolver-se e assumir responsabilidades na condução do dia-a-dia, entre outros, que conduziram o pai para uma maior partilha equitativa da parentalidade com a mãe. O presente estudo tem como objetivo alargar o conhecimento sobre a experiência da paternidade através do auto relato do pai, medindo e correlacionando quatro constructos: as Memórias do Estilo Parental na Infância e Adolescência, o Estilo Parental Educativo adotado pelos pais, o grau de Envolvimento Paterno e o Sentimento de Competência perante a paternidade. Para tal foi aplicado um protocolo com os seguintes instrumentos, o EMBU- Memórias de Infância, o EMBU-Pais (Castro, Pablo, Gómez, Arrindel, & Toro, 1997; versão portuguesa de Canavarro, Pereira, & Canavarro, 2003), IEP- Inventário de Envolvimento Paterno (IFI Hawkins, Bradford, Palkovitz, Christiansen, Day, & Call, 2002; tradução portuguesa de Barrocas, Santos, & Paixão, 2011) e o SCP - Escala de Sentimento de Competência Parental (PSOC; Johnston & Mash, 1989; versão portuguesa de Seabra-Santos & Pimentel, 2007). Os resultaram ajudam a compreender melhor as relações entre estes quatro constructos entre si e respetivas subescalas. Demonstra-se a transgeracionalidade na composição do papel de pai destes participantes e exploram-se os componentes e correlações significativas das características de cada um dos quatro constructos. Deixa pistas para novas investigações sobre a transgeracionalidade do papel de pai, bem como a necessidade de aprofundamento dos componentes da parentalidade.

In the mid-70s, an increasing number of women begun to share the responsibility for family support, this movement creates the necessity to transform the role that the father has in family life, especially regarding children care. Some values of parenthood gained more prominence as: the presence with the child, accompany child daily activities and his development, demonstrate kindness and affection, get involved and take responsibility of everyday life, among others attitudes that approximate fathers to one most equitable sharing of parenting with the mother. The present study aims to extend the knowledge about the experience of parenthood through father´s self-report, measuring and correlating four constructs: Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour, Parental Rearing Behaviour , Paternal Involvement and the Parenting Sense of Competence . This was applied to a protocol with the following instruments, EMBU M Inventory for Assessing Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour (EMBU; Perris, Jacobson, Lindstorm, von Knorring, & Perris, 1980; portuguese version of Canavarro, 1996) EMBU- Parents Inventory of Parental Rearing Behaviour Pais (Castro, Pablo, Gómez, Arrindel, & Toro, 1997; portuguese version of Canavarro, Pereira, & Canavarro, 2003), IFI Inventory of Father Involvement (IFI Hawkins, Bradford, Palkovitz, Christiansen, Day, & Call, 2002; translation to portuguese of Barrocas, Santos, & Paixão, 2011) and PSOC Parenting Sense of Competence(PSOC; Johnston & Mash, 1989; portuguese version of Seabra-Santos & Pimentel, 2007) . The results of this study can help to better understand the relationship between these four constructs their subscales. Demonstrate the transgenerationality of the composition of the parental role of these participants and explores the components and significant correlations of the characteristics of each of the four constructs. This study gives some clues for further research on the role of father transgenerationality as well as the need to deepen the components of parenting.
