This report describes the activities carried out in an internship environment, in the context of company work, as part of the curricular plan of the master’s degree in Geology, in the Area of Specialization Applied and Environmental Geology, taught at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, whose theme is “The contribution of Engineering Geology to geotechnical design. A case study”. In the first part, some technical considerations, methodologies, and tests applied in the prospecting campaigns are described, through bibliographic consultation in various specialist manuals, on the different methods and devices most frequently used, referring to the type of prospecting used, in situ and laboratory tests. The results of the different prospecting campaigns that took place during the execution phase of a project that was monitored throughout the internship are presented. To characterize the soils of the project in question, the respective borehole logs were analyzed and the results of in situ and laboratory tests were interpreted. Interpretative geological-geotechnical profiles are presented, establishing the local geological framework and its geotechnical conditions of interest to the project. To obtain the basic elements for the preparation of the Geological and Geotechnical Study, the Geotechnical Prospecting Plan is included, with the criteria and methodologies adopted for its realization, criteria for taking samples, carrying out in situ tests, locations of the different methods and types of prospecting, with a view to acquiring sufficient knowledge of the massif to depths considered interesting by the respective works. The combination and integration of the existing elements on or near the site, together with the elements of the surface geological reconnaissance, should make it possible to draw up the Geological and Geotechnical Study that reports on the geological and geotechnical characteristics of the land, which corresponds to the needs of the project.
