Abstract(s)
When buildings are constructed, there must be created plans with the position of all its
elements, including walls, doors, plumbing, among others. Despite, sometimes changes
on execution are made, and may not justify a change to the initial project. This can sometimes lead to these elements real positions not corresponding to their projected position.
Building maintenance or renovation is inevitable at a certain point in the structure
lifecycle. The execution of these procedures most times involves perfurations in walls
or even their destruction. If plumbings are not in their projected position, a pipe can be
pierced inadvertently.
On the other hand, even if plumbing is within the projected positions, it is not always
easy for the person excuting the job to identify them using the plans. Furthermore, sometimes it is not pratical to read these plans each time a minor intervention is needed, for
example, to hang a painting or mirror.
The objective of this project was the creation of a mobile aplication that allows users
to see, through augmented reality, the position of the pipes inside a wall, floor or ceilling,
helping to avoid them when executing operations that have some risk of damaging them.
The development involved the analysis of diferent tracking methods leading to the
choice of a combination with results that were compatible with goals of the project.
User testing was made in two different moments and the results of the first session of
testing were used to improve the application before the second round.
