Investimento sustentável no grupo segurador Ageas

Abstract

O setor segurador tem um papel relevante no desenvolvimento e crescimento das economias, enquanto parte integrante do sistema financeiro, contribuindo de forma decisiva para a criação de riqueza a nível mundial e nacional. Parte significativa da atividade das empresas seguradoras consiste em gerir Carteiras de Investimento. Atualmente, existe uma importância crescente da sustentabilidade, com ênfase cada vez maior em investimentos sustentáveis. Neste contexto, o setor segurador pode desempenhar um papel crucial ao promover práticas e investimentos que consideram não apenas os retornos financeiros, mas também os impactos ambientais, sociais e de Governo Societário (também conhecidos como impactos ESG – Environmental, Social and Governance). Para além de descrever as atividades das companhias de seguro assim como o que se entende por investimento sustentável, o presente relatório descreve e analisa as atividades que desenvolvi no meu estágio no Departamento de Investimentos do Grupo Ageas Portugal, onde desempenhei funções na área de investimento sustentáveis. Este relatório de estágio está estruturado em seis secções distintas. A primeira apresenta uma introdução geral ao conteúdo do relatório. A segunda aborda o enquadramento teórico, focando-se na atividade de uma Companhia de seguros e no seu papel no mercado financeiro, além de explorar os investimentos sustentáveis e como as companhias de seguros atualmente incorporam esse tipo de investimento. Na terceira secção, é realizada uma caracterização detalhada do Grupo Ageas e da sua Política de Investimento. A quarta secção descreve as várias atividades desenvolvidas durante o estágio, tais como a análise das Carteiras de investimento e as questões regulamentares atuais da Sustentabilidade nos investimentos, incluindo uma breve análise do trabalho realizado. A quinta secção propõe melhorias com base nas atividades desenvolvidas ao longo do período de estágio. Por último, na sexta secção, são apresentadas conclusões sobre a experiência do estágio, juntamente com uma avaliação pessoal da mesma. Este estágio reforçou minha convicção de que a sustentabilidade e o desempenho financeiro não são mutuamente exclusivos, mas sim interdependentes. O compromisso com práticas de investimento sustentáveis não apenas atende às crescentes expectativas dos investidores conscientes, mas também desempenha um papel vital na construção de um futuro financeiro responsável. Com o final do estágio, e feita a avaliação do mesmo, posso concluir que este contribuiu de uma maneira muito significativa para o meu desenvolvimento profissional e pessoal, e também que o Grupo Ageas Portugal possui práticas bastante desenvolvidas na sua política de investimentos sustentáveis.

The insurance sector plays an important role in the development and growth of economies, as an integral part of the financial system, making a decisive contribution to wealth creation at global and national level. A significant part of the activity of insurance companies consists of managing investment portfolios. Currently, there is a growing importance of sustainability, with an increasing emphasis on sustainable investments. In this context, the insurance industry can play a crucial role by promoting practices and investments that consider not only financial returns, but also environmental, social and corporate governance impacts (also known as ESG impacts). As well as describing the activities of insurance companies and what is meant by sustainable investment, this report describes and analyses the activities I carried out during my internship in the Investment Department of the Ageas Portugal Group, where I worked in the area of sustainable investment. This internship report is structured into six distinct sections. The first presents a general introduction to the content of the report. The second deals with the theoretical framework, focusing on the activity of an insurance company and its role in the financial market, as well as exploring sustainable investments and how insurance companies currently incorporate this type of investment. The third section provides a detailed characterization of the Ageas Group and its Investment Policy. The fourth section describes the various activities carried out during the internship, such as analyzing investment portfolios and the current regulatory issues of sustainability in investments, including a brief analysis of the work carried out. The fifth section proposes improvements based on the activities carried out during the internship period. Finally, in the sixth section, conclusions are drawn about the internship experience, together with a personal evaluation of it. This internship reinforced my conviction that sustainability and financial performance are not mutually exclusive, rather, they are interdependent. A commitment to sustainable investment practices not only fulfils the growing expectations of conscious investors, but also plays a vital role in building a responsible financial future. At the end of the internship, and having evaluated it, I can conclude that it has made a very significant contribution to my professional and personal development, and that the Ageas Portugal Group has well-developed practices in its sustainable investment policy.
