Prostate cancer is the most frequent type of cancer in the male population. In the past years, there has been developed new compounds for the treatment of this pathology that present great advantages in terms of safety and efficiency. The development of these compounds accompanied the increase in availability of oral antineoplastics. These drugs offer advantages as the ease of administration, commodity for the patient and cost reductions. The disadvantages include the reduction of medical supervision, administration errors and unpredictable bioavailability. As this drugs are only given at hospitals and since cancer is a chronic disease, the dispense of oral antineoplastics in community pharmacies should be evaluated. Due to his proximity with the patient, the community pharmacist could have a very important role on the dispensing of these drugs, educating the patient or his caregiver, to ensure correct administration of the medicines and ensuring the safe and effective use of oral antineoplastics.
