Abstract(s)
Nos anos 90 assistiu-se a uma importante viragem nas relações económicas entre o Brasil e Portugal no sentido da sua intensificação, bem como da sua generalização aos principais fluxos. Após apresentar, de uma forma sintética, as grandes tendências do processo bilateral, afirma-se que ele tem raízes profundas na globalização e regionalização em curso na economia mundial, que aproxima naturalmente os países que têm determinadas características comuns, como língua e história, ou afinidades culturais. No que respeita ao futuro, embora a sua sustentabilidade não pareça, desde já, assegurada, sobretudo devido às incertezas que envolvem a globalização, os factores relativos aos dois países, nomeadamente às suas empresas, após as mudanças da última década, parecem estar a adaptar-se melhor à prossecução e consolidação de uma maior proximidade. A concluir, considera-se que Brasil e Portugal têm muito a ganhar se cuidarem desta relação e souberem criar um ambiente favorável ao seu desenvolvimento.
In the 1990s, Brazil and Portugal experienced a major shift in the economic relationships, intensifying and generalizing its main flows. After briefly introducing the major trends of the bilateral process, the paper shows that it is deeply rooted in the ongoing globalization and regionalization processes of the international economy, thus bringing together countries with similar features, namely language, history or cultural affinities. In terms of future, its sustainability does not seem to be assured, due to the uncertainty surrounding globalization. The issues related to both countries, or more specifically to their companies, seem suitable to the changes experienced in the last decade, thus preparing them to face a closer proximity. Summing up, it is worth noting that Brazil and Portugal have a lot to benefit from this relationship, if they manage to look after it, creating an environment favorable to its development.
