As
As aprendizagens a nível
relacional foram as mais mencionadas pelos entrevistados.
The present research study reports the experiences of elderly people residing in nursing homes. The research study focuses on "the courses of elderly people faced with integration in a nursing home", and its central aim is to understand how the experience of living in a residence facility interferes with the learning process of elderly residents in a nursing home. The following specific aims were defined: to analyse the adaptive strategies of elderly residents in a nursing home, to identify the facilitating/obstructing factors of teaming and to identify the modes of promoting learning by the elderly in an institutional context. The basic question was: "How do the elderly learn to live in a nursing home?" A qualitative, exploratory and descriptive methodology was used, and the study is a phenomenological approach. For this purpose, a biographic approach was used. Based on content analysis, the study presents a synthesis of biographic courses, some aspects associated with moving to reside in a nursing home, the experience of residing in a nursing home, the adaptive processes experienced by the elderly, what they learn and how they leam to live in a nursing home. The results suggest that the main concerns when deciding to live in the nursing home were the fear of adaptation and that negative previous experiences would repeat. The main difficulty felt by the elderly during integration was at a relational level. Learning by the elderly was related to adaptation to physical disabilities, diseases and occupation of spare time. Learning at a relational level was the most frequently referred by the interviewees.
