The lack of success of a space mission means a considerable loss on many levels. Asides from the monetary issues, most of the consequences are considered to be critical, not only due the loss of the satellite and its consequent mission, but in the case of a crewed mission, the consequences may be catastrophic, leading to the loss of lives. Therefore, it is fundamental that the space vehicle be tested and validated as a whole, in order to minimize chances of failure. In this context, a document named Software Development Validation and Verification Plan was produced in the scope of the future launchers project (EADS Astrium) where the software development plan and verification plan are described in greater detail, regarding the flight launch component, with the objective to assure that what is being developed satisfies the defined requirements. The quality concept has always been considered a strategic concept since Critical Software’s foundation, being a main competitive advantage. The Quality Department’s main objective is to guarantee project delivery, on budget, on time and finally, according to client approved requirements. The quality of software is obtained through the implementation of project management practices, coordination and control, converging into a Quality Management System which follows the international ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 15504 (SPiCE) standards. Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQA) tasks consist in verifying if these practices are being followed and to coordinate the workers in these tasks, in order to guarantee the end result’s quality and eventually improve existing processes.
