O edifício da "antiga garagem, cocheira e cavalariça da casa de António Santos Jorge", no Estoril, foi mandado edificar em 1914, segundo traço de Norte Júnior, ampliando assim a área construída afecta à casa de veraneio da família. Caracteriza-se o edifício, arquitectónica e construtivamente, em resultado da sua observação exterior. Saliente-se a impossibilidade de confrontar os elementos recolhidos no exterior com aqueles que uma observação do interior permitiria. Apresentam-se o seu projecto de construção e a cronologia do edifício para os anos de 1965 a 2005, período de tempo de que o Arquivo da Câmara Municipal de Cascais detém documentação. O principal objectivo deste artigo é contribuir para o conhecimento material e construtivo das Cocheiras Santos Jorge, um singular conjunto actualmente abandonado, e assim concorrer para uma correcta intervenção. Este estudo evidencia a existência de um complexo mosaico territorial, de distintas paisagens, que testemunham práticas de gestão do recurso água, aplicadas em 1900. Os resultados confirmam a viabilidade da articulação entre diferentes fontes documentais, para benefício do método de caracterização visual, em termos de indicadores necessários para a visualização do metabolismo urbano, contribuindo para uma contextualização da sua futura contabilização.
The building of the ancient "Santos Jorge garage, coach house and stables", in Estoril, was ordered to be built in 1914. The architect Norte Junior was the responsible of the family holiday house enlargement project. The building is characterized both architectonic and constructively, as result of its exterior observation. The impossibility of interior observation which would certainly allow confronting to the exterior elements collected has to be noted. This paper presents the construction project and the buildings' chronology between 1965 and 2005, the time period for which local municipality archive holds documentation. The main aim of this article is to contribute to the material and constructive knowledge about Santos Jorge Coach House, a remarkable and abandoned construction, and so support a correct intervention.
