O capital linguístico e as migrações internacionais: uma análise da influência deste capital na escolha dos estudantes brasileiros do ensino superior por Portugal

Os estudos das migrações contemporâneas têm
procurado resgatar os laços históricos, culturais e linguísticos,
para além de analisar as redes sociais que ligam origem e
destino, para melhor compreenderem o que tem influenciado os
fluxos migratórios da atualidade. No entanto, enquanto as “redes
de relações úteis”, ou seja, o capital social do imigrante, tem-se
apresentado como objeto de muitas pesquisas, ainda pouco se
sabe sobre o grau de influência que o capital linguístico (uma das
características do capital social) pode exercer sobre a escolha do
país do destino no contexto das mobilidades estudantis
internacionais. Com base na análise dos dados obtidos através
de uma pesquisa de doutoramento em curso, pretendo discutir
sobre o grau de influência que o capital linguístico dos
estudantes brasileiros do ensino superior tem exercido na
escolha de Portugal, quando está em causa a realização dos seus
projetos de mobilidade estudantil internacional.
The studies of contemporary migration have sought to revive the historical, cultural and linguistic ties, as well as to analyse the social networks that connect countries of origin and destination, in order to understand better what has influenced the current migratory flows. However, while "networks of useful relations", in other words, the social capital of the immigrant, has been the object of many research studies, little is known about the degree of influence that linguistic capital (one of the characteristics of social capital) can have on the choice of country of destination, in the context of international student mobility. Based on analysis of data obtained through an ongoing doctoral research, I intend to discuss the degree of influence that the linguistic capital of the Brazilian students of higher education has had in the choice of Portugal, in regard to carrying out their international student mobility projects.
