Resumo(s)
This work was conducted in an olive grove near Santarém and its main objective was the determination of soluble carbohydrates content in roots (R), trunk (T), branches over three years (R+), branches of three years (R3) and branches of two years (R2) in cultivar Cobrançosa to integrate a model of olive growth and development. Samples were taken from six plants randomly chosen, three with high crop load (CA) and three with low crop load (CB) in four time points. Sugars contents were determined by three methods, 2- cyanoacetamide (reducing sugars), Somogyi-Nelson (reducing sugars) and anthrone (total soluble sugars) in samples derived from ethanolic extracts (low molecular weight carbohydrates) and from aqueous extracts (high molecular weight carbohydrates).
Crop load effect showed weak influence. Regarding carbohydrates contents in each sample, R2 and R3 showed highest sugar content (aproximately 2 mg/100 mg dry weight), and R+ showed lowest content (approximately 1,7 mg/100 mg dry weight). Carbohydrate content increased during growth cycle in all organs, with highest values achieved at endocarp hardening. 2-cyanoacetamide detection showed best results
