Tourism is an industry continually growing at the portuguese national level. In association with this growing also increases social recognition and concern for sustainable travelling, where Nature-based Tourism and Ecotourism arise as an alternative or complementary solution. To minimize that industry’s impacts, it is essential to adopt new policies in order to control and monitor these damages. Thus, among the legislation that regulates Nature-based Tourism in Portugal, there is the DR nº18/99 that compels every Protected Area to create a Nature Sports Chart (CDN) containing the rules and guidelines for each sport and including the respective carrying capacity (CC). This work is an attempt to solve the lack of CC calculations for the CDN from the Portuguese protected area PNS-C due to an alleged lack of expertise. Taking advantage of this chart review process, it was applied a methodology created by Cifuentes (1992) to hiking and adapted to PNSC’s reality. Among the objectives, this study also aims to contribute with important data to describe objectively a previously selected trail and to identify staging points through the intersection of literature and mapping information. Thus, using the previous description, we were able to apply Cifuentes’ methodology to our trail. Where the maximum achieved level was the Real CC with a result of 493 visitors per day. In addition to this result, we identified and described three hotspots, was created a list of fauna and draw the profile for this trail. Thus, if these findings are considered by ICNF this study will contribute with an essential management tool on hiking regulation and to develop the PNS-C’s CDN.
