A conjuntivite alérgica canina (CAc) tem um impacto relevante na qualidade de vida dos doentes e está frequentemente associada à dermatite atópica canina (DAc), estando descrito que entre 30 a 50% destes doentes apresentam sinais oculares compatíveis com CAc. Para caracterizar melhor as alterações da película lacrimal em cães atópicos foi utilizado o equipamento inovador OSA-Vet®. Os objetivos do presente trabalho foram caracterizar qualitativamente o filme lacrimal na amostra de cães atópicos em estudo, investigar a existência de uma correlação entre DAc, CAc e síndrome do olho seco e contribuir para a definição de valores de referência para os parâmetros do filme lacrimal pré-corneano em cães atópicos com CAc. A qualidade do filme lacrimal foi avaliada em dois grupos, cães saudáveis (n=20) e cães atópicos com conjuntivite alérgica (n=20). Todos os doentes foram submetidos a um exame oftalmológico completo, classificação do score da DAc e da CAc, bem como a avaliação com o equipamento OSA-Vet® compreendendo os parâmetros interferometria, meibografia, meniscometria e NIBUT. No tratamento dos dados recorreu-se aos testes de Mann-Whitney U e correlação de Spearman considerando um intervalo de confiança de 95% (p=0,05). Os resultados da meibografia no grupo controlo foram de 0,13 (IQR 0 – 1,0) e dos atópicos 1,5 (IQR 1,25 – 2,0), enquanto que a interferometria no grupo controlo foi de 3,0 (IQR 2,5 – 3,0) e nos atópicos 2,0 (IQR 1,13 – 2,0), sendo estatisticamente significativas as diferenças. Foram identificadas diferenças significativas também no score da DAc entre o grupo controlo (0 [IQR 0 – 1,75]) e o grupo atópico (13,5 [IQR 5,0 – 22,0]), e no score da CAc entre o grupo controlo (0 [IQR 0 – 0,88]) e o grupo atópico (3 [IQR 2 – 4,38]). Foram identificadas correlações relevantes entre o score da DAc e da CAc (ρ = 0,782), os valores de STT-1 e o score da DAc (ρ = -0,327) e da CAc (ρ = -0,409), a interferometria e o score da DAc (ρ = -0,629) e da CAc (ρ = -0,490) e finalmente entre a meibografia e o score da DAc (ρ = 0,607 e da CAc (ρ = 0,499). Em conclusão, cães com DAc apresentam alterações do filme lacrimal detetáveis com o OSA-Vet®, sobretudo na meibografia e na interferometria, o que reforça a importância da camada lipídica na homeostasia da superfície ocular. Também se confirmou a existência de uma relação entre o score da CAc e da DAc. O OSA-Vet® revelou ser uma ferramenta objetiva e promissora na caracterização das alterações da superfície ocular dos doentes alérgicos, possibilitando abordagens terapêuticas inovadores e mais eficazes
Canine allergic conjunctivitis (cAC) has a significant impact on the patient’s quality of life and is frequently associated with canine atopic dermatitis (cAD), with reports indicating that between 30 to 50% of these dogs present ocular signs compatible with cAC. To evaluate these alterations an innovative device for tear film analysis was used - the OSA-Vet®. The goals of this study were to establish reference values for precorneal tear film parameters in dogs with cAD, to determine differences between dogs with and without cAD, to qualitatively characterize the tear film in atopic dogs, to assess possible parameters alterations in dogs with cAC, and to investigate the existence of a correlation between cAD, cAC, and dry eye disease. Tear film quality was evaluated in two groups, healthy dogs (n=20) and atopic dogs with allergic conjunctivitis (n=20). All underwent complete ophthalmic examination, scoring of cAC and cAD, and assessment with the OSA-Vet®, including interferometry, meibography, meniscometry, and NIBUT. The Mann-Whitney test was applied to the parameters, and Spearman’s correlation test was used to analyze the correlations between the different parameters and between groups and parameters, with a 95% confidence interval (p = 0,05). Meibography results were significantly different between the control group (0,13 [IQR 0 – 1,0]) and the atopic group (1,5 [IQR 1,25 – 2,0]), as well as interferometry values between the control group (3,0 [IQR 2,5 – 3,0]) and the atopic group (2,0 [IQR 1,13 – 2,0]).
