| dc.description.abstract | O espólio ósseo humano proveniente do tholos de Agualva é re-analisado à luz de novos dados e métodos. Presentemente, esta colecção é constituída por aproximadamente 600 peças osteológicas muito fragmentadas e incompletas que correspondem a um mínimo de 12 indivíduos, 8 adultos (incluindo dois do sexo feminino e três do masculino) e 4 não adultos. Entre os adultos incluem-se dois indivíduos que faleceram com mais de 30 anos. A criança mais nova detectada nesta amostra teria entre 5 e 10 anos na época da morte, para além de mais duas que faleceram entre os 10 e 14 anos. Os restos odontológicos foram particularmente informativos sobre patologias e lesões: estes indivíduos possuíam um desgaste dentário médio (x=3,77; n=20), com 14,6% (7/48) dos dentes perdidos em vida e 30%, com lesões cariogénicas (6/20). Estes valores são mais elevados que os usualmente documentados para séries coevas, mas podem estar um pouco enviesados face ao reduzido tamanho da amostra. Sinais de patologia degenerativa, infecciosa e circulatória constituem as restantes evidências das moléstias de que estes indivíduos padeceram. Em suma, o presente contributo é mais um testemunho que o estudo de colecções ósseas antigas constitui uma fonte insubstituível sobre as populações do passado. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The human bones from the Agualva tholos are re-examined in the light of new data and methods. The collection consists of about 600 very fragmented and incomplete bones that add up to a minimum number of 12 individuals, 8 adults (including two female and three male) and 4 non adults. Among adults, two individuals over 30 years were identified. The youngest child in this sample would be between 5 and 10 years old at the time of death and two more died between the ages of 10 and 14 years. The dental remains yielded particularly interesting information regarding diseases and injuries: these individuals showed a medium tooth wear (x = 3.77, n = 20) and 14.6% (7/48) of ante mortem tooth lost. 30% of the analysed teeth presented cariogenic lesions (6/20). These values are higher than those usually documented for coeval series, but may be a little biased due to the small size of the sample. Signs of degenerative, infectious and circulatory pathologies constitute the remaining evidence of diseases suffered by these individuals. | pt_PT |
