Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient holistic therapy recognized for its efficacy in treating and preventing various pathologies. Among its practices, acupuncture, in particular, is recommended by the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for multiple conditions, including low back pain. This condition, characterized by pain in the lower back, significantly affects the quality of life of patients. Several studies demonstrate the benefits of acupuncture in alleviating lower back pain. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of TCM treatments for low back pain or sciatica. To this end, a questionnaire was developed and administered to 35 patients with these conditions who underwent TCM treatments. The study also analyses patients perceptions of the impact of treatments on their quality of life, considering the changes felt regarding pain characteristics, emotional balance, improvement in sleep quality, digestive function, and reduction in the use of conventional medication. The study follows a cross-sectional analytical observational approach and retrospective analysis, examining sociodemographic, anthropometric, and health data of participants. Various statistical tests were performed using R version 4.4.14 to evaluate the relationship between Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments and the intensity of lower back pain, as well as various dimensions of quality of life. The results show statistically significant differences in lower back pain intensity before and after undergoing TCM treatments. All study participants reported a positive impact on their quality of life, with 55.88% stating that TCM contributed significantly and 44.12% acknowledging a considerable contribution. Additionally, approximately 73.53% of patients reported improvements in other areas of their health. Based on these data, we can conclude that Traditional Chinese Medicine significantly contributes to the reduction of lower back pain and the promotion of the quality of life of patients with low back pain and sciatica.
