O presente estudo pretende analisar a importância da viagem no filme Darjeeling Limited
(2007) de Wes Anderson. O primeiro momento deste trabalho (secção 1 e 2) reflecte, de forma
breve, sobre o universo cinematográfico do autor, com particular incidência em algumas
das suas obras, de forma a compreender a importância da viagem para Anderson e para os
irmãos Whitman, protagonistas do filme. Tema recorrente nos filmes de Anderson, a viagem
permite explorar outras problemáticas presente na sua obra, como a família, o amor parental
ou a transformação e aprendizagem das personagens. Por isso, a segunda parte (secção 3 e 4)
recorre a análises detalhadas das mais importantes cenas do filme de modo a explorar como
o realizador se debruça sobre as questões acima mencionadas. Paralelamente, este trabalho
tenta compreender o potencial transformador da viagem nos irmãos Whitman que, no fim do
seu percurso, estão prontos para iniciar um novo caminho graças ao seu crescimento pessoal.
This article aims at analyzing the importance of the journey in Wes Anderson’s Darjeeling Limited (2007). The first part of this study (section 1 and 2) explores Anderson’s cinematic universe taking into account a brief description of some of his films in order to understand the importance of the journey in his works, particularly in the case of the Whitman brothers. The journey is a common them in Anderson’s films that allows him to explore other issues, such as family, parental love or the transformation and learning of his characters. Therefore, the second part of this analysis (section 3 and 4) will consider the most important scenes in Darjeeling Limited to understand how Anderson explores these and other issues and, at the same time, to grasp the Whitman’s transformation throughout the journey, which will allow them to start anew.
