Resumo(s)
The main objective of this article is to approach the task environment and the factors influencing the performance of firms in the BRICS countries during the recovery period after the 2008 financial crisis and the modeling of the effects of the task environment, market power, and competitive position of firms on performance. Partial Least Squares modeling was used to estimate the model parameters, and the sample is composed of companies in the manufacturing industry of the BRICS countries, in the period from 2012 to 2017. The key results are that market power and competitive position influence firm performance, and the task environment does not significantly influence competitive position, market power, and performance. Firms that increase their market power and improve their competitive position tend to perform better in different macroeconomic environments and degrees of competition.
