Com o objetivo de aliar a sustentabilidade com a reabilitação e nova construção no Parque das Freiras, em Lagos, esta proposta foca-se no desenvolvimento desse projeto, tendo por base o uso da pedra como o material principal que possa responder a estas problemáticas enunciadas, como sempre conseguiu responder desde os primórdios da construção.
A pedra como elemento estrutural na Arquitetura, um conceito sustentável, que traz de volta a essência deste material tão “comum”, ao demonstrar as suas características e potencialidades, com base em estudos e obras de artistas, para justificar o interesse atual e universal deste tema, a aplicar na proposta de projeto.
A proposta de projeto tomará a cidade de Lagos, como território de intervenção. Uma das cidade protagonistas dos Descobrimentos, com toda a sua história e consequente estrutura urbana definida ao longo dos anos estabeleceram uma geometria irregular, que deu origem a alguns vazios urbanos. Vazios derivados da intersecção entre o desenho da malha urbana e o recorte dos panos da muralha renascentista. O parque das freiras, surgiu originalmente como um destes vazios urbanos. Situado na ponta poente da muralha, este espaço deu lugar ao Terreiro das Freiras, contíguo ao Convento de Nossa do Carmo, quando este foi edificado no século XVI.
A intervenção representa uma oportunidade de valorização do parque das freiras e dinamização deste canto da cidade pouco acessível ao público. Um lugar subaproveitado e em degradação, com necessidade de abertura para a cidade. A reabilitação a ser bem integrada, parte das pré-existências do local (a muralha e baluartes, o auditório ao ar-livre, o poço e reservatório e a vegetação) e da sua envolvente urbana (o edificado confinante, as ruas e acessos ao parque e o largo Dr. Vasco Gracias).
In order to combine sustainability with the rehabilitation and new construction in Parque das Freiras, in Lagos, this proposal focuses on the development of this project, based on the use of stone as the material that can respond to these problems mentioned, as it always managed to answer since the beginnings of construction. Stone as a structural element in architecture, a sustainable concept, which brings back the essence of this so “common” material, by demonstrating its characteristics and potential, based on studies and masterpieces by previous artists, grounding the current and universal interest of this theme, to be applied in the project proposal. The project proposal will be based in the city of Lagos. One of the leading cities of the Portuguese Discoveries, with all its history and consequent urban structure defined over the years established an irregular geometry, that gave place to some urban voids. Voids resulting from the intersection between the design of the urban mesh and the cutout of the Renaissance wall. Parque das Freiras originally emerged as one of these urban voids. Located at the western end of the wall, this space gave way to the Terreiro das Freiras, adjacent to the Convento de Nossa do Carmo, when it was built in the 16th century. The intervention represents an opportunity to enhance the value of Parque das Freiras and stimulate this corner of the city that is not so accessible to the public. An underused and degraded place, in need of opening to the city. The rehabilitation to be well integrated, begins with the pre-existing elements the define this place (the wall and bastions, the open-air auditorium, the well and reservoir and the vegetation) and its surroundings (the adjacent buildings, the streets and accesses to the park and the square Dr. Vasco Gracias).
