The cultivation of coffee in Angola was severely disrupted by the war during the last 30 years. The consequences included political instability, abandon of commercial agriculture, exodus of rural populations, replacement of coffee by subsistence crops, and a continuous diminishment of production in all coffee growing areas in the country.
In the current after-war period, the recovery of production may play an important role in the improvement of living conditions of populations growing the crop, may contribute to the increase of national income and to the rural growth of coffee growing areas. For such, it is necessary to develop policies supporting coffee cultivation, in order to increase production. The study was based on colonial and post-colonial periods, since they correspond to very different coffee production policies and agrarian structures.
Thus, this thesis addresses the consequences for coffee production, based on the last governmental policies that extinguished the former Secretary of State for Coffee transferring all structures under the control of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Thesis addresses also technical, economic and social aspects as well as the development of micro-credit policies as a tool for revitalizing coffee production in the region of Libolo
