A Carmona S.A.
This work aimed to identify opportunities to improve the wastewater treatment process of the company Carmona S.A., and it was possible, in some cases, to apply them during the work period, from October 25, 2022, to June 25, 2023. Carmona S.A. is a hazardous and non-hazardous waste treatment and management company that has several business areas. Within the various environmental solutions that the company has, there is a system for treating industrial and domestic wastewater, carrying out pre-treatment, physical-chemical treatment, and biological treatment. This work focused on optimizing the characterization of the type of wastewater discharged and optimizing biological treatment to meet the maximum allowable discharge values currently imposed. Initially, problems related to wastewater discharge were identified, to install a multiparametric probe, Proteus 35, to overcome the identified problems. As it was not possible to complete the installation of Proteus 35, another alternative was chosen, a probe, Real Tech Aqua BP Series, which allows the creation of reading models for specific parameters, such as chemical oxygen demand, for each type of water, through Liquid Ai Data Management software. It was also identified that the reactors where the biological treatment was carried out did not have any activated sludge treatment, which is why a sludge dehydrator screw, the M-Press 300, was installed. There was a decrease in the total suspended solids content, a decrease in the sludge age and an increase in the efficiency of biological treatment. At the end of this work, there were prospects for implementing a new biological treatment system that would increase its efficiency and the total wastewater treatment capacity by around 2.5 times, from 1050 m3 to 2700 m3.
