This study was conducted during the professional internship, done in 2015, that is part integrated of the study plan of the Master in Clinical Analysis of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon (FFUL). This document is a Report and it will also be an element in the final evaluation. The aim of this Report is to describe the most important activities developed during the internship. The internship occurred in a laboratorial context in two different institutions. At the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Lisbon, Francisco Gentil, where the following valences were performed: Pre-analytical, Clinical Biochemistry, Immunology and Virology, and in the Clinical Analysis Laboratory Dr. Joaquim Chaves, were the valence of Haematology was held. This report is divided by the valences and in each one the main activities developed during the internship are described. Given the extend of the matters, it is made a short description of the main equipment, methods and trials done through the laboratorial valence. The opportunity to develop this professional internship was an asset to me. With this internship I had the opportunity to remind, reflect and apply in real laboratorial context some of the knowledges acquired during the curricular units of the course. The internship also allowed me to acquire new knowledge, to have contact with the laboratorial context and to establish very enrichment and rewarding relations with professional and users, which were very important for my personal and professional development in the clinical analysis.
Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease, characterized by a deficit in the glucose regulation by insulin. Currently it has a high prevalence in all world. Diabetes constitutes a risk factor in cardiovascular diseases aggravated by its association to dyslipidemia. This monography is developed in two parts. In the first part it is made a brief literature review about the main pathophysiological aspects of the diabetes and its complications. In the second part, it is made a short retrospective study. In this study a sample of 74 users, holders of diabetes mellitus 2 was considered. These users were being followed in Endocrinology consultation in a Psychiatric Institution, during the 2015 year. The aim of this study is to characterize the population in the sample and to assess its glycemic and lipid profile. The analytical parameters studied were: fasting blood glucose; glycated haemoglobin; total cholesterol; LDL- cholesterol; HDL- cholesterol and triglycerides.
