A Medicina das Viagens tem conhecido um grande desenvolvimento nos últimos 35 anos face ao enorme crescimento verificado nos fluxos de viajantes internacionais, designadamente para destinos em vias de desenvolvimento ou de maior risco. Esta evolução na mobilidade internacional significa ao nível da saúde individual, um aumento importante dos riscos e das ocorrências de doença e implica, ao nível da saúde pública, uma maior exposição aos riscos de importação de doenças infecciosas exóticas ao País.
Acompanhando o rápido crescimento da Medicina das Viagens, tem havido um enorme esforço na definição de um corpo de conhecimentos científicos e na padronização da prática através da criação de linhas orientadoras.
Na Medicina das Viagens, devido às mudanças constantes nos padrões das doenças tropicais, aos requisitos internacionais dos diferentes países, à disponibilidade de vacinas e fármacos existentes e suas recomendações de uso, os profissionais de saúde que prestam aconselhamento na área deverão ter uma qualificação adequada e permanentemente actualizada.
A consulta do Viajante é uma consulta prestada por um profissional especialmente habilitado, com uma finalidade essencialmente preventiva, visando proteger o viajante dos factores de risco de perturbação do estado de saúde que irão estar presentes no decurso de uma viagem.
Apesar da elevada probabilidade da ocorrência de perturbações de saúde em viagem, este risco é frequentemente desvalorizado não existindo um hábito sistemático de procurar aconselhamento pré-viagem
O presente trabalho pretende investigar as condições de viabilidade de implementação de um serviço especializado de aconselhamento em saúde ao viajante, prestado por um farmacêutico na farmácia comunitária e a sua utilidade, avaliando a existência de restrições normativas, de formação profissional e relativas a instalações e equipamentos.
Devido à sua proximidade com o utente, o farmacêutico pode oferecer com vantagem este tipo de aconselhamento centrando-se no segmento das viagens e dos viajantes que não apresentem riscos agravados específicos.
The practice of Travel Medicine has registered an enormous development in the past 35 years due to the growth of international travelling, specifically to emerging countries or other risky destinies. These trends in international mobility represent an increased risk for the individual health; and for public health, an additional probability of importing exotic infectious diseases to the country. The development of Travel Medicine has been translated into the creation of a specific scientific body of knowledge and in the increased definition of guidelines for the clinical practice. Due to the constant changes in the patterns of the infectious diseases, in the specific international requirements, and in the availability of vaccination and medicines, its use and recommendations, the health professionals involved in travel advice should have proper specific qualification and maintain it permanently updated. Travel consultation is a consultation given by a professional with specific skills, mostly preventive, aiming at protecting the travelers from health risks derived from travelling. Although the probability of incurring in health problems as a consequence of travelling is high, there is no systematic habit of seeking pre-travel counselling. The objective of this study is to investigate the conditions for the implementation of a specialized pre-travel advice service by the pharmacist in the community pharmacy and its usefulness, by evaluating the existence of any restrictions from a regulatory, professional and material points of view. Due to its proximity to the patient, the pharmacist may advantageously offer this type of service focusing on the travelers and destinies that do not present any aggravated specific risks.
