Este artigo consiste numa análise, baseada em contributos teóricos recentes, sobre a natureza bilateral do comércio português de bens manufacturados entre 1980-87. A CEE e os PALOP são as áreas que servem de suporte à análise empírica, pelas suas características diferenciadas, e pelo relevo que têm merecido, tanto em termos históricos como na perspectivação da configuração actual da especialização portuguesa. Os resultados permitem identificar padrões bilaterais no comércio português, o que tem implicações ao nível da exploração das vantagens comparativas mais adequadas em cada caso
This article consists of an analysis, based on recent theoretical contributions, concerning the bilateral nature of Portuguese trade in manufactured goods between 1980-87. The EEC and the African Portuguese ex-colonies (PALOP) are the areas that afford a support to empirical analysis. They were chosen on account of their distinct characteristics, and particular importance displayed, both in historical terms as well as future prospects for the present Portuguese specialization. The results enable one to identify bilateral patterns in Portuguese trade, which has implications regarding the more appropriate comparative advantage in each case.
