Resumo(s)
Autobiographical memory is a fundamental cognitive process that shapes our identity by helping
us build a coherent narrative of ourselves over time. It goes beyond recalling events, creating a
sense of personal continuity that helps us understand who we were and may become. By organizing and retrieving memories we influence how we perceive the present and plan for the future.
Autobiographical memory enhances social interactions by allowing us to share personal stories,
fostering empathy, and strengthening relationships. When we share memories with family and
friends, we create a ”shared reservoir of experiences,” reinforcing social bonds.
Media such as movies and music play a key role in this process. These forms of entertainment
evoke strong emotions and are often tied to significant life moments, making them powerful anchors for autobiographical memories. Sharing media-related memories with loved ones deepens
personal connections.
With this in mind, we present a web application designed to help users document and share
their memories, particularly those tied to music and movies. It enables users to explore memories
through time, location, and emotions, providing an engaging way to revisit experiences. Memory
anniversaries and location-based reminders, as well as media-content filters, help foster deeper
connections. The adaptation of the application for mobile devices allows for a continuous and
flexible experience on multiple platforms and locations. The design is based on thorough research,
aiming to enhance self-reflection and social interaction.
This thesis explores the theoretical foundations and existing platforms that informed the application’s development, alongside a user evaluation highlighting its usability and potential to meet
the demand for a media-linked memory-sharing platform, while also basing itself on the As Music
Goes By application.
Finally, we envision future development focused on personal growth and psychological wellbeing, aligned with the principles of Autobiographical Memory and Collective Memory, which
were central to this project.
