dc.description.abstractIn recent decades, knowledge regarding stroke pathophysiology has greatly increased. Information regarding mechanism and pathogenesis of brain ischemia derived from basic, translational, and clinical studies has allowed the design of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that by using advanced brain imaging methods evaluated the role of individual patterns of penumbra and perfusion in the extension of therapeutic windows for reperfusion treatments. The results of these RCTs successfully allowed the number of patients who receive acute stroke treatment to be increased.pt_PT
