Neste capítulo analisam-se os padrões de distribuição geográfica e as migrações
internas da população estrangeira, em perspetiva comparada com a população
portuguesa. Com base em dados do Recenseamento da População de
2011, sobre mobilidade geográfica intermunicipal no período 2005-2011,
caracterizam-se os padrões de mobilidade dos principais grupos de imigrantes,
procurando identificar semelhanças e diferenças entre nacionais de distintas
origens, bem como os fatores explicativos dos padrões encontrados. A
metodologia utilizada consiste numa série de modelos de regressão múltipla
em que se procuram explicar os padrões de mobilidade geográfica interna da
população residente, nativa e estrangeira, dando especial atenção às condições
da economia local, com destaque para o mercado de trabalho e ao mercado de
habitação. A análise efetuada permitiu verificar que os imigrantes apresentam
muito maior mobilidade geográfica do que a população nativa, nomeadamente
para os grupos das vagas migratórias mais recentes. Os fatores económicos,
especialmente o emprego, constituem o principal motor da mobilidade
geográfica interna da população de nacionalidade estrangeira. Contudo, nas
áreas metropolitanas, onde os imigrantes têm maior expressão, a mobilidade
intermunicipal está mais relacionada com as características do mercado de
habitação e a tendência para a suburbanização da população imigrante.
This chapter analyses the patterns of geographical distribution and internal migration of the foreign population comparatively to the Portuguese population. Based on the 2011 Population Census data on inter-municipal geographic mobility in the 2005-2011 period, the mobility patterns of the main migrant groups are characterized, seeking to identify similarities and differences between citizens of different origins, as well as explanatory factors of the patterns identified. The methodology consists of a series of multiple regression models that seek to explain the patterns of internal geographical mobility of the resident, native and foreign population paying special attention to the conditions of the local economy, especially the labour market, and to the housing market. From the analysis it possible to see that migrants have much greater geographical mobility than the native population, namely for the most recently arrived migrant groups. Economic factors, especially employment, are the main drivers of the internal geographical mobility of the foreign population. However, in metropolitan areas, where migrants are more present, inter-municipal mobility is more closely related to the characteristics of the housing market and the tendency for suburbanization of the migrant population.
