Este conjunto de ensaios e de estudos pretende oferecer ao leitor uma perspectiva sistematizada da presença e influência da cultura romana, sobretudo ao nível das problemáticas da identidade, na contemporaneidade, entendendo-se aqui por “contemporânea” a realidade histórica que se segue à Revolução Francesa, no final do século XVIII. Deste modo, reúnem-se estudos que abrangem questões políticas e institucionais, mas também historiográficas e artísticas, da Literatura, às Artes Plásticas e ao Património. Os textos reunidos centram-se sobretudo no caso português, mas incluem-se também reflexões mais abrangentes que têm como horizonte a Europa e os EUA.
This set of essays aims to offer the reader a systematized perspective of the presence and influence of Roman culture, especially at the level of identity issues, in contemporaneity, “contemporaneous” being understood here as the historical reality that followed the French Revolution, at the end of the 18th century. The studies brought together cover political and institutional realities, but also historiographical and artistic topics, from Literature to Fine Arts and Heritage. The collected texts focus mainly on the Portuguese reality, but also include broader reflections such as Europe and the USA.
