dc.description.abstractO presente trabalho tem como objectivo estudar e caracterizar o mercado da arte moderna e contemporânea em Portugal – com particular incidência na região de Lisboa – no início do séc. XXI, entre os anos 2005 e 2013. Para isso, foram recolhidos e analisados dois conjuntos de dados: entrevistas a diversos dos intervenientes no mercado da arte nacional, entre os quais se incluem galeristas, marchands, leiloeiros, antiquários e agentes relacionados com a comunicação social; e os dados públicos dos leilões realizados durante o período estudado pelas leiloeiras Palácio do Correio Velho, Cabral Moncada Leilões, Sala Branca e Veritas Leilões. Este conjunto de informação permitiu realizar uma análise qualitativa e quantitativa ao mercado da arte moderna e contemporânea português e caracterizar o mesmo, compreender que tipo de relações existem com o meio internacional, a flutuação do gosto do público que adquire arte moderna e contemporânea em Portugal, a posição actual das galerias de arte nacionais e o movimento das leiloeiras a nível de vendas. Pretende-se assim compreender como funciona um sistema que não conta com estruturas de controlo oficiais e que costuma ser pouco transparente ao público. O estudo permite ainda analisar a ligação existente entre a obra de arte e o mercado e verificar se a arte pode ser considerada como uma alternativa a outros investimentos financeiros. Tal como sucedeu no panorama internacional, no qual se deram grandes oscilações entre 2005 e 2013, esta análise inclui dois momentos opostos da situação económica portuguesa, já que abrangeu um período de crescimento da economia nacional e um momento de recessão profunda, entretanto ultrapassado. Esta mudança proporcionou a hipótese de compreender a forma como os intervenientes do mercado nacional se adaptaram a esses dois momentos. Por fim, pretende-se com este estudo complementar a informação existente a nível nacional sobre o panorama do mercado de arte contemporânea, que tem sido alvo de pouca divulgação quando comparado com a produção de trabalhos na área realizada a nível internacional.pt_PT
dc.description.abstractThe present work aims to study and characterize the market in modern and contemporary art in Portugal – with a particular focus in the Lisbon region – at the beginning of the 21st. century, between the years 2005 and 2013. For that purpose two sets of data were collected and analyzed: interviews with several of the national art market players, among which include gallery owners, art dealers, auctioneers, antique dealers and social media agents; and public data from the auctions held during that period by the auction houses Palácio do Correio Velho, Cabral Moncada Leilões, Sala Branca and Veritas Leilões. This information allowed us to perform a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the market for modern and contemporary art in Portugal and then characterize it, understand what kind of relations exist with the international art market, the choices of the buyers of modern and contemporary art in Portugal, the current position of the national art galleries and the movement in sales of the Portuguese auction houses. With this information, the present work aims to understand a system that does not seem to have official control structures and is often non-transparent to the public. We also aim to check the connection between the artwork and the market and whether the artwork can be considered as an alternative to other financial investments. As in the international scene, which had some turbulence between 2005 and 2013, this analysis includes two opposing moments of the Portuguese economic situation, since it covers a period of growth of the national economy and a time of deep recession, now surpassed. This period of change provided the chance to understand how the national art market players have adapted to two very distinct moments in the economy. Finally, it is intended that this study complement the existing information at a national level of the contemporary art market, which has been subject to poor dissemination compared to the production of works in the area carried out internationally.pt_PT
