The findings of attic ceramics in the portuguese territory have multiplied since the end of the 70's. The archaeological works that took place in the last decade in Iron Age settlements of Baixo Alentejo and Algarve gave way to important changes in the knowledge of the greek imports in Portugal. It is no longer possible to limit these imports to the vases found in the end of the XIXth. century in the necropolis of Senhor dos Mártires (Alcácer do Sal), an idea which unfortunately is still common among the european scientific community. This essay includes an inventory of the attic ceramics known in Portugal and a study on their probable commercial routes within the portuguese territory. Particular focus will be given on the costal sites where greek ceramics were found, stressing the role of the river valleys, namely the ones of the Guadiana and of the Sado. The portuguese imports of attic ceramics will be analyzed in the framework of the exports made to the Iberian Peninsula during the Vth and the IVth centuries a.D. The similarities between the materiaIs found in the South of Portugal and those of the western Andalusia will also be properly examined.
