Resumo(s)
The reference to powerful myths and notable figures of Classic mythology in the short fiction discussed exemplifies to what extent myth lives on in contemporary literature. Bearing in mind Northrop Frye's essay "Archetypal Criticism: Theory of Myths", the aim of this essay is to understand displacement as a crucial technical device used in the short fictions discussed here: A. S. Byatt's "Medusa's Ankles," Ali Smith's "Girl Meer: Boy", Isabel Barreno's "As três amigas" and Lídia Jorge's "As três mulheres sagradas".
