- Tradition and change in labour relations : the portuguese casePublication . Cerdeira, Maria da Conceição; Dias, Joãolt is generally agreed that technology, organisational methods and qualifications have changed more quickly over the last decade. lt is also considered evident that this type of change has interconnections with the labour relations system. Nevertheless, these are different perspectives about the role that labour relations have assumed in technological and organisational innovation and in the process of qualification. There is also no clear agreement on the impact that the new production technologies and changing work methods have on the labour relations system. Because this is a complex question and the phenomenon presents multiple trends (between companies, activities, countries) there are now different theoretical approaches on this subject. This paper presents some results from an analysis of the contents of the collective bargaining agreements in Portugal, around four axis: technological and organisational innovation, organisation of the time-work, training and management of careers.
