<dcterms:accessRights>open access</dcterms:accessRights><dc:type>info:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesis</dc:type><dc:format>application/pdf</dc:format><dcterms:link>http://catalogo.ul.pt/F/?func=item-global&doc_library=ULB01&type=03&doc_number=000562695</dcterms:link><dcterms:advisor>Sousa, João Aires de</dcterms:advisor><dcterms:abstract>The effect of weathering on crude oils and on the prediction capabilities of Kohonen neural networks, when these are trained to predict the geographical origin of crude oils, was studied in the present work. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry was the analytical technique of choice to monitor the effect of weathering on crude oils and to determine a set of analytical parameters. Among all parameters, 22 were selected because they are considered to be extremely robust to weathering. From the set of data collected a database was built which was composed by263 samples from six distinct geographical origins and represented by 22descriptors. The database was then used to perform three different studies of Kohonen networks applications, in order to study the effect of weathering, to compare between weathered and un-weathered samples, and to compare distinct operational conditions (distinct instruments/technicians).After the training of the neural networks, for the several studies proposed, the percentage of correct previsions was in the range 83,8% - 95,7%, when applying decision making criteria based on sets of networks.</dcterms:abstract><dc:subject>Teses de mestrado</dc:subject></record></value></md></mds><relations/><stream_ref><file_name>19345_ulfc091361_tm_Dissertacao_MQAA_CBorges.pdf</file_name><file_extension>pdf</file_extension><mime_type>application/pdf</mime_type><directory_path>/digitool_storage/deposit-master/2009/10/02/file_1/19345</directory_path><file_id xsi:nil="true" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"/><storage_id>1006</storage_id><external_type>-1</external_type><file_size_bytes>2344668</file_size_bytes></stream_ref></xb:digital_entity></xb:digital_entity_call>
